PTO President's Welcome
On behalf of the Anglo-American School of Moscow’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), I would like to welcome all new and returning families to the 2016-2017 school year at AAS!
For some of you, this may be your first experience with a Parent Teacher Organization, so let me tell you a little about the AAS PTO. It is important to note that, as a parent, you are automatically a member of the AAS PTO. In fact, all parents as well as all teachers are members of the AAS PTO and are encouraged to participate in our activities. We are an independent organization and are not affiliated with any outside groups. Everything we do focuses on the AAS community and all PTO funds are used to enrich our school and the lives of our children.
The goal of the PTO is to work in partnership with the school. We help enhance the educational and social experience of AAS students and help create the warm, friendly community that AAS is so proud of! Throughout the year, we organize visiting artists, book fairs, craft fairs, community outreach and fun activities for parents, families, and students: please visit the full calendar of PTO events. We also run the PTO Store where you can find PE uniforms and many spirit items, and The Exchange where you can donate, exchange or buy used books and gently used uniform items.
The PTO holds monthly meetings in the South Cafeteria, generally on the third Tuesday of every month. They are a great source of information and community contacts. Join us for a meeting to learn more about what the PTO is doing or simply to meet new people. We hope that by learning more about the PTO you are inspired to become an active PTO member. If you would like to become more involved by volunteering on a regular basis or even just for an hour a week or for a single event, we would love to have your help. If you are unable to volunteer please support us by attending one of our meetings. We could not do it all without the help of our volunteers.
Since the start of the school year, we have welcomed our new parents and held newcomers seminars, which are extremely useful and informative for both new and returning families. We have also helped organize the Welcome Back Fun Run, BBQ, and Wellness Fair. The PTO, working with external partners, provided all the food, refreshments, and a wonderful celebration cake.
We are looking forward to the 2016-2017 school year being the best one yet for AAS. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions, please let us know. One of the most exciting parts of having new people in the AAS community is that with new people come new ideas.
