FROM THE AAS DIRECTOR
AAS 70th Anniversary week started Monday, October 7. Students are enjoying opportunities to reflect on our past, present, and future. Some highlights so far from this week are lunchtime learning activities with the Communications team, the 70th decorated cupcakes, and popular foods from each decade in the cafeteria. Please follow all the school news via our social media mashup page at
This Friday, October 11, 14:00-15:30, students will engage in an afternoon of 70th celebration activities designed for division, including opportunities to engage with members of the Collins family who are visiting AAS. In addition, we have a few more dress-up days and special anniversary treats and menu items:
Thursday (October 10): 1980s and 1990s
Friday (October 11): 2000s and 2010s
Students may wear an international costume on any of these days which represents the many nationalities attending AAS, or wear their uniform.
The student lounge and hall of flags will be closed on Friday from 15:45 to 19:00 for an alumni and invited guests reception. Students who may still be on campus will need to walk around through the divisional hallways.
The PTO is hosting their annual Kids' Craft Fair this coming Saturday, 12:00 - 15:00. This event needs more volunteers. Please consider
to help out at this Fair. The PTO supports our community through events such as this one, please support the PTO!
This Saturday at AAS is also Super Saturday with all day Volleyball and Soccer taking place on campus, check the Penguin Life section of the newsletter for scheduled and come and support our athletes! Go Penguins!
We continue to monitor analytics and gather data from the community feedback on the format of our weekly newsletter. One of the areas we would like to highlight is the access to the calendar via the newsletter. We have seen an increased use of the online calendars and are pleased with these results as the most up to date and accurate information about school events is located online. When you view the online calendar on your computer, there are more details than you see on your phone. However, clicking any date on the mobile view of the calendar will bring up all of the events for that date with more details.
Speaking of calendars, as I look at the AAS
for this and next week, I see no less than 4 and up to 15 activities occurring each day in support of our students. Thank you to our parents who partner with AAS to support their children in developing Holistic Excellence at AAS.
Finally, please be sure to check the lost and found cabinet under the main entrance stairwell in the next few days. We will be donating all unclaimed lost and found items to charity on October 19.
Have a great week!
