Help Vietnam Challenge - AAS

AAS students across all divisions have launched a campaign to help the massive flooding situation in Vietnam.

This campaign is completely student initiated and student run!

Your support will encourage our students to take action and make our world a better place!

Read what students and members of AAS community say:

As a KIK member, I am giving this money for better future of Vietnam and its children. Happy holidays!!!

So proud of our AAS students for their commitment to making our world a better place through this awareness and fundraising campaign!

Congrats to the members of the Global Impact Club and the Inter-Club Council on raising awareness and funds for this worthy cause.

Great Job ICC! Our students bring so many of these issues to light for us. Great presentation, outstanding service. Represent! Go Penguins!

More than 66% of the Vietnam population lives in rural areas, where rice farming is the major industry and whole families earn as little as $1 – $2 a day.
Children growing up in extreme poverty often have no choice but to quit school and move far from home, exposing them to dangers such as trafficking, homelessness, sexual exploitation, drug abuse, and illness.

How Blue Dragon Helps Children in Vietnam

Floods across the central provinces of the country have made headlines around the world. This is a part of Vietnam that experiences floods every year, and expects bad weather, but rarely to this extent or severity. Storm after storm has hit, and areas that very rarely see floods have been under water for days.

Blue Dragon has been out delivering food aid in Hue province, a part of the country where we’ve been working since 2005. Our long-term focus in Hue has been to end the trafficking of children into sweatshops; and since we achieved that, we have continued working to build up the resilience of families and communities so that the traffickers will never return.

Blue Dragon Principles

Respect, not pity

The children we work with are treated with at least the same respect that we would treat our own sons and daughters, brothers and sisters.

Development, not charity

We work to help children develop fully as they grow, through providing a broad range of experiences and opportunities. Rather than simply provide a handout, we provide a hand-up for those who choose to better their circumstances and themselves.

Empowerment, not dependency

Our role is to provide opportunities for children to pursue as individuals rather than to force our views or values on the children.

Collaboration, not control

Our staff work alongside the children and their families, so that beneficiaries are involved in all stages of our work, rather than simply being recipients of charity.

Massive interventions, not quick-fix solutions

We tackle the problem of poverty from every angle rather than focusing on one obvious cause or effect. Our interventions may take years, as we persist until we are successful.

What People Say

I have gone through lots of upheavals in my life. You are the one who helped me overcome all of these. You are like my second mother. Thank you for caring for me and helping me over the past few years.
Ngoc, 19, a trafficking survivor

Thank you and other people at Blue for helping me, especially you. I feel grateful to you for caring and fully supporting me for the past time. I am really grateful to you. I’m very sad since I can’t have a day off from work to visit you for the last time as a student, but I hope one day I will meet you again. I love you so much!
Huong, a student supported by Blue Dragon

(My son) left home with his friend and didn’t come back… We had been so desperate when people at Blue Dragon came and brought him back to the family. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude and send big thanks to all the staff working in Blue Dragon, especially to the founder and all the donors. If it hadn’t been for you, our children would have been struggling in this dangerous and alluring world.
Chuc Nhat Son

All children have the right to be children, to be safe, to attend school, to play, to be treated with respect, to be heard, to be understood and to be loved.
